“Holy, Blameless, Undefiled, Separate From Sinners”
“For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens . . . . For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever.” Heb. 7:26, 28.
First of all, it is obvious that in this context it speaks about the Son’s condition after He had been exalted above the heavens, after He had been perfected here on this earth.
Secondly, correctly understood, He was also holy, blameless, undefiled, and separate from sinners in the days of His flesh. Some time ago, this scripture was misquoted in a religious publication that was writing against Christ manifested in the flesh. Instead of “separate from sinners,” it said “separate from sin.” This was supposed to prove that Jesus did not bear our sins in His flesh.
This was a two-fold mistake. The author of this article wrote as though this scripture spoke about Christ’s condition in the days of His flesh, while it is plainly evident that it speaks about His condition after He was perfected. Furthermore, the scripture was quoted incorrectly.
This is one more evidence that religious publications cannot be blindly trusted, not even when they quote Scripture. It is best to investigate personally what is actually written.
