The Greatness of Christ
Without any contradiction whatsoever, everyone must confess that the more Jesus was like the Father in the days of His flesh, the easier it would be to be victorious, while on the other hand, the more He was like us, the more difficult it would be to overcome. Since He was victorious with our sin in His flesh, He was, without contradiction, so much greater than if He had not had sin in the flesh.
There are those who say that we belittle Jesus by believing the scriptures that say He bore our sin “in His body,” that He was “made to be sin,” that sin was “condemned in the flesh,” that Jesus had a will to deny and overcome, etc., etc. Such talk is thoughtless and irrational, no doubt about it!
The deeper the humiliation, the greater the exaltation! Philippians 2:9. This will surely be the text of the Lamb’s song when they start singing: “Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty!” Rev. 15:3. And what does experience teach us? Christ becomes far, far greater for us in this light. Hallelujah!
