Letter to Elias Aslaksen, 1912/05/17

Horten, May 17, 1912
Dear Br. Aslaksen,

Thank you very much for your good letter that I received a while ago. It is now on its way to America together with your photograph and a short biography of you. The purpose of this was to introduce you to some friends over there who frequently write to me. If God should then direct your path to America one day, you will be known over there.

We are very glad to hear that you have found an open door in Hønefoss. It is blessed to work in the Lord’s vineyard. Tobiassen and Øvrebø are here now, and they come by to talk with me whenever they have shore leave. Things are going very well for Br. Ellefsen on board now, and everything is “righting” itself. I received a letter from Aksel, which I am enclosing, where you can read about how the work is going in Kristiania. Write an article for Skjulte Skatter about the work in Hønefoss, if you think that is appropriate. Br. Mikkelsen is now here for a visit. You know that he is retired and living in Porsgrund, where he is now working in the light God has given him. And he is more zealous now that he is on his own.

All of this shows us that God is working alongside us. I am thankful that Christ has apprehended you in such a way that you have set your sights on working in lowliness, so that some will stumble—and others can stumble—over that work. It is a mystery of Christ to remain in lowliness, because that undermines; and all the religious confusion that is so prevalent now must be undermined.

Everything is desolate and now is precisely the time when we need to work. Maybe you could come down on Pentecost weekend. You know that there is a conference in Moss—maybe something could be done there. Do you want me to send some money?

There is a lot for us to talk about now.

I hear Judith is making great progress and that she is even holding Bible studies.

A brother named Emanuel Pettersen in Sarpsborg told me that as soon as his eyes were opened to this life, he felt a tremendous conflict within, which he said was from the devil, and he prayed that God would take it away. No doubt there are quite a few others who think the same thing when God sends His cleansing fire over them. Perhaps you, too, will meet people like this on your way. Then it is best if they reveal to you what they are experiencing so that you can quickly recognize what is going on. God wants to train some to be servants, but these must first be tested to see if they are faithful. Others have impurities which must be cleansed out, etc.

It will be interesting to hear from you now. We discussed whether we needed to send issue number 5 to more people, and we forgot you. Very sorry about that. Karl will send five copies now. We printed so few this time.

Warm greetings from us here.

Your devoted brother,

Johan

Loving greetings with Neh. 9:8. I am well, and God is my strength; He gives power for victory on board.

Yours in Christ, Theodor.

Every now and then we sell a book.
