Kristiansund, April 3, 1917
Dear brother Aksel,

As you can see, I am now in Kristiansund. We arrived on Saturday and will stay until Thursday evening, due to a change in travel orders. There are two of us here who are chief gunners, and a gunner from Ålesund is coming later on to join the transport, consisting of 50-60 men who will travel by train from Trondheim to Horten. We are currently staying at the Mission Hostel and will be here for five days. We are doing nothing but sightseeing around town.

On Sunday I attended three meetings at Missionshuset (the Frimissionsvenn meeting hall). It was a full house. At two of the meetings, I got up and spoke to the congregation, who were quite sluggish in their spirit. A preacher by the name of Williams, who had been to America, got up after me. He spoke powerfully about taking up our cross, but since he himself has not gone outside the camp and borne the reproach, his preaching will not be of much value. He was going to travel on to Ålesund. Today is Tuesday, and there might be some meetings this evening. Apparently, there are some Baptists here, but other than that, there are no free assemblies. Today as I walked around the town, several people greeted me. I assume they had been at Missionshuset on Sunday.

The plan was for us to sail south along the coast, but then there was a change of orders, and so we have to remain here for the time being. It’s definitely a change from life on board. On the evening of Good Friday, God willing, we will depart from Trondheim and arrive in Kristiania at noon. From there, the Falk torpedo boat will take us down to Horten. I’m most likely going to be assisting with uniforms on Easter Sunday. After that, I’ll have a week off. You should take a trip to Horten one of those days, as it fits for you. They say we are going to be reassigned from our posting on the destroyers in the spring, but I don’t know how that will turn out.

The Valkyrjen was in Moldøen yesterday to take on coal. It will remain in Haugsholmen for the time being. Before we left Ålesund, the captain promised Br. Hågensen that he could go ashore to visit Moldøen on Monday and rejoin the ship in Ålesund the following Saturday. That way, he would have four to five days with the friends down there, including Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. God guides everything in such a good way. Br. Hågensen will probably be discharged in May, and then he plans to travel to Kristiania. He is happier than he has ever been. He has lifted up heads that hang down and strengthened the feeble knees and has been a source of joy and help to me on board. The friends in Ålesund are doing extremely well, and it has been a true joy to spend time among them and experience their zeal. We only have a short time here, and I am longing to meet some seeking souls; however, I don’t know where to find them. Now, as always, God must send them to me.

Greet your family.

Warm greetings from your brother,

Johan
