Matthew 10:28-31

This is one of the simplest and thus one of the most powerful passages of Scripture. It is fully capable of leading us into a deep rest in God. These very words have worked powerfully in me since I was young. It is particularly worthwhile to meditate much upon these simple and glorious words of Scripture, backwards and forwards, again and again, speaking to yourself about them.

Have you ever thought seriously about the following verse? Not one of the sparrows falls to the ground without your Father’s will! How about a human soul, then? Or many souls? Your child? Your husband? Your wife? “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” Do you know how many hairs you have on your head? Do you know what has become of each one of your hairs? He knows! They are numbered and accounted for. This is the spirit and meaning of these powerfully faith-strengthening words.

Then what about everything else that has happened to you and will happen to you on life’s way? Please answer me that!

All the words of all the languages of the world are insufficient to express the infinitely great and perfect justification we have for resting in God, at all times and in all things. They are totally inadequate to express just how great our rest in God becomes when by faith our hearts melt together with such words.

Glory to God in the highest and glory to God on earth! Amen.
