If you seek the honor of man…

If you seek the honor of man, you will exclude yourself from this rest in God. You will always be restless and anxious when it concerns your reputation. You will constantly worry about what this or that person thinks about you, about how you should conduct yourself to win as much honor and as little reproach of man as possible.

You will definitely have much trouble and bother without any real gain. For one thing, you will never receive all the honor you desire. There will always be plenty of people whom you can never please anyway. Secondly, even if you were to have all the honor of man that you wanted, the disappointment would be devastating in the end when God, the true Judge, metes out the honor and the dishonor to everyone that is justly due to them.

We shall certainly receive the honor that is due us from God, and no one will be able to take it away from us. The false honor we have received from man will undoubtedly be exchanged for dishonor.

Why suffer all this unnecessary unrest from seeking the honor of man? It only makes things worse, increases your lack of rest, and hinders you from entering into rest in God. Give up this ridiculous struggle; commit yourself and everything else to God; trust Him, trust His Word, and enter into eternal rest from being interested in the honor of man! Amen.
