Want—unrest—lack of rest.
Want—unrest—lack of rest. Some want this and some want that. Some want “him” and some want “her.” Thus they have unrest in their innermost being. Perfection is always to remain at rest in God.
When people’s desires are not satisfied, they are disappointed. This is nothing but rebellion against God, even if it can often be rightly called a very mild form of rebellion. In any case, it is in conflict with rest in God.
It is also in conflict with the precious scripture in Psalms 23: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want [I lack nothing].”
Just think of the tremendous amount of sorrow, suffering, want, torment, and unrest we are saved from by being crucified with Christ, by being made like Him in His death and thus, by faith, entering into His rest!!! What a rest!!
