You Shall Also Pull Out some Ears From the Sheaves for Her

Verse 16

The mind of Jesus Christ is filled with care and goes to great lengths on behalf of a lowly soul. When someone in the church has gleaned precious experiences during his walk with God, he has a desire to pull some ears out of his glorious sheaf to give to a hungry soul; however, it requires a considerable amount of humility to receive it from the reapers; people would rather receive it directly from Boaz. The humble person accepts what he gets, and wherever he might find it. Blessed is each soul who is in this state; it will not be difficult for him to find spiritual food for himself or for others. The servants pulled out the ears, and Ruth picked them up. They gave her of their hearts’ treasures, and she bent her back to pick them up. A person with a proud heart would like to receive something from God, but he will not accept anything from people. This was not Ruth’s attitude. She joyfully received grace and gifts from the reapers; she even humbled herself before their faces. This is the right attitude; for God has quite often ordained that the reapers should give a hungry Ruth of their ears. Nowadays you can often hear these words: “No, not from you; only from Jesus.” It is the same as if Ruth had said, “No, I don’t want anything from you reapers, but only from Boaz.” If that had been Ruth’s attitude, Boaz would have reprimanded her and supposedly, if she had not humbled herself, banished her from his field. A proud soul does not become old in God’s field.
