She Gleaned in the Field Until Evening

Verse 17

When we receive light over something we are to do, this indicates “morning.” When we are finished, “evening” comes, and further light over the matter vanishes so that light can rise again over other things.

Every follower of Jesus Christ should, as Ruth did, remain faithful in the light from morning till evening and finish his work in this light. If you continue in this faithfulness from your life’s morning till your life’s evening, then at the end of your life you will be able to say together with Paul: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” 2 Tim. 4:7-8.
