The Book of Ruth

Blessed Be the Lord, Who Has Not Left You This Day Without a Redeemer, and May His Name Be Famous in Israel

Verse 14

The laws in Israel provided for a redeemer. Blessed laws! In the meantime, people speak about the holy and just law as if it were an enemy of mankind. The reason for this is that mankind, according to its fallen nature, is bound to sin and enjoys its lusts. The law convinces of sin and chastises the sinner; therefore it is hated. But if there is an upright soul, he will acknowledge the judgment and condemnation of the law as just. He will discover that the embarrassing state in which he has landed was caused by himself, and he will begin to search for a redeemer. Boaz was such a redeemer whom God had sent in Ruth’s way. Now the women said to Naomi, “May his name be famous in Israel.”

It says about the Antichrist that he will come on the wing of abominations. He is descended from an ungodly family and born of a corrupt train of thought.

By way of contrast, our beloved Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, came on the wing of blessings. His forefathers according to the flesh were a long line of God-fearing men and women who were famous in their time, even until our days. They were blessed by the people in their days and elected by God to be forefathers of Him who saves and redeems each lost sinner who comes to Him.
